Panel 1: The Greek and East Med Perspective

Fernando Kalligas

Head of the Management Office, DESFA

Fernando Kalligas is currently the Head of DESFA’s CEO office and Country Manager of Enagas for Greece. His responsibilities in Enagas include overlooking participated companies in Greece, DESFA and TAP, and further opportunities in the region.

Born and raised in Greece, with working experience in over 20 countries, mainly in infrastructure projects in Europe, South and Central America and Sub-Saharan Africa, he also holds an MBA from Hult International Business School.

Before working for Enagas, he was in Borealis, developing Extra High Voltage Transmission Systems in Europe and the US.
He has worked for several years with the Spanish company Comsa Emte in constructions and infrastructure.

Fernando has also consulting experience, working for funds on international business development in London.
He started his carrier in Greece in MJ Mailis in the Oinofyta plant.

Dimitris Mezartasoglou

Head of Research, IENE

Dimitris Mezartasoglou has taken over as Head of Research at IENE since January 2018. He joined the Institute in October 2015 as Research Associate and since then he has focused on a number of research areas, which are central to IENE’s work. He was a key contributor to IENE’s major study, published in 2017, the “SE Europe Energy Outlook 2016/2017”. He has full exposure across the energy sector specifically for Greece and SE Europe.

Whilst at IENE, Dimitris has participated in a variety of projects, including the “Greek Energy Directory 2016” publication, the “Greece’s Energy Sector – Annual Report 2019” publication and IENE’s continuing research project on the Expanded South Corridor. At the same time, Dimitris is contributing as assistant editor to IENE’s various regular publications, including “Market Fundamentals and Prices”, “Monthly Analysis” and of several other IENE newsletters. His research interests include the economics of European and SEE’s energy integration and energy policy making, including gas, renewable energy sources and energy efficiency sectors as well as energy poverty issues. Dimitris has also participated in several energy conferences, seminars and workshops either as a speaker/panelist.

Dimitris holds two Master’s degrees from the University of Strathclyde on Global Energy Management and from the University of Exeter on Money and Banking.

Dr Charles Ellinas

Senior Fellow, Atlantic Council and Senior Research Associate of IENE

Over 35 years experience in the oil & gas sector in senior management positions.

Currently CEO of e-CNHC (E-C Cyprus Natural Hydrocarbons Company Ltd), providing management and advisory services in the oil & gas and energy sectors in Cyprus and the region. Prior to this, as CEO of KRETYK Dr Ellinas was responsible for implementing Cyprus government’s strategy for the development of its hydrocarbons sector.
Until 2012 Dr Ellinas was a Director of Mott MacDonald for 25 years and the Managing Director of Mott MacDonald’s Oil, Gas & Petrochemicals business world-wide.

Charles Ellinas is also Features Editor, Natural Gas World, and Senior Associate, Atlantic Council.

Panel 2: The SE European Perspective

Robert Bošnjak

Head of Strategic Development Department, Plinacro

Over twenty years, Robert Bosnjak has been actively involved in gas market development projects in South East Europe dealing with energy consumption analyzes and consumption forecasting, gas network development planning as well as gas systems pre-feasibility and feasibility studies.

Soon after gaining the master’s degree in petroleum engineering at the Faculty of Mining, Petroleum and Geology, University of Zagreb (1997), he was employed in Energy Institute Hrvoje Pozar as junior expert where he worked for more than twenty years. He left Institute from the Deputy Head of Energy Systems Planning Department in Energy Institute Hrvoje Pozar position. Currently, Mr Bosnjak holds position as Head of Strategic Development Department in Plinacro, Croatian TSO. He participated in more than 100 technical studies, more than 20 scientific or technical papers, and was co-author in 5 books During his professional carrier he participated on several advanced trainings of which the FOIP – business and company development – Preparation and evaluation of investment projects, RUHRGAS Gas Distribution System Planning Software and Market Research, Information and Optimisation System training, IAEA expert MAED – Model for Analysis of Energy demand training and ENERDATA s.a. France – Training Seminar on Energy Demand Forecasting and Energy Efficiency Evaluation are most important. Beside different office software tools he is educated and competent user of different CAD and GIS software tools. He is specialised in energy consumption and gas and heat system development aspects: Energy consumption analyses, Energy consumption forecasting, Gas and heat network development projects planning, Pre-feasibility and feasibility studies development.

Aura Sabadus

Senior Journalist, ICIS

Aura Sabadus is a senior journalist with a ten-year experience in covering gas markets in Turkey, Romania and Ukraine for ICIS.

She holds a PhD in International Relations from King’s College London and is a research associate of the London-based European Centre for Energy and Resource Security (EUCERS).

Aura has contributed articles for Turkish academic journals, the Atlantic Council and NATO Association Canada.

Milan Zdravković

DSO Executive Director, JP SRBIJAGAS

 

Milan Zdravković is DSO Executive Director at JP SRBIJAGAS, with following responsibilities:

 

  • Coordination of the strategic development activities in gasification of Serbia
  • Active cooperation with the international institutions ECS, EC DG Energy, EC CESEC,  DVGW, IENE, IGU, UNECE,
    • Member of technical working group EC CESEC (Central and South East Europe Gas Connectivity)
    • Head of  DVGW work group RG 6 – Project «Harmonization of legislation and technical regulation in SE Europian gas sector»
    • JP SRBIJAGAS Representative in SEE Energy Community
    •  IENE (Institute of Energy) Associate Member
    • Member of program committee group IGU – PGC A – Sustainable development,
  • JP Srbijagas Coordinator deputy for the Republic Serbia National Investment Plan in the gasification sector,

Gokhan Yardim

Partner & Manager, ADG Anadolu Natural Gas Consultancy, Turkey

Mr Yardım has graduated from Middle East Technical University, Ankara in 1979 as a Chemical Engineer with M.Sc degree. He started his business life in Ankara Electricity Gas and Omnibus Authority (EGO) to work as a production engineer in the town gas production plant.

Mr Yardım joined Botas (Petroleum Pipeline Corporation) in 1983, as an Engineer then became Chief Engineer, Manager, Head of the Natural Gas Department and appointed as CEO in 1999. He organised and managed the first operation of the natural gas pipeline system of Turkey. He was the Chairman of Turusgaz (Turkish Russian joint Gas Company) and Deputy Chairman of Gaztransit (Turkish, Russian and Ukrainian gas transit company in Ukraine) between 1999- 2001. He was the Chairman of the Natural Gas Distribution and Usage Experts Group in UN European Economic Commission Geneva in 1993-1994 and he was the Chairman of the organising committee of the UN Symposium on Gas Markets in EEC Region on 2000-2010 in Istanbul.

After retirement from Ministry of Energy as an adviser in 2005, he joined ADG Anadolu Natural Gas Consultancy Trade Limited and he is a partner and manager now.

Mr Yardim was appointed as the general manager of Angoragaz Gaz Ticaret Sirketi (belonging Turkerler Holding) in January 2011 and left in September 2018.

He also managed Wind Energy Projects in Turkerler Group.

He was Chartered Member of Institution of Gas Engineers and Managers, UK and is Honorary member of IENE, Greece.

Andrii Prokofiev

Head of Business Development Division, Gas TSO of Ukraine

Andrii Prokofiev is responsible for business development in LLC Gas TSO of Ukraine, the newly created Ukrainian TSO. His main task is cooperation with neighboring TSOs, as well as EU and international organizations, market participants, state services in energy sector in Ukraine, etc.

He is also involved in the company’s international infrastructure projects and Ukrainian gas market reform, especially in relation to full integration with the EU.

Andrii Prokofiev graduated from Kyiv National Taras Shevchenko University in 2015, and received Masters degree in international economics.

He started his career in Ukrtransgaz as a specialist in Business development unit in 2016.
